Mr Cameron toured the facility and was particularly interested in the unique heating system for the company's own factory which extracts energy from water stored in the site's flooded mine shafts.

As well as discussing the challenges facing the renewable industry, Mr Cameron promised additional support under a Tory government for UK manufacturers to support the creation of ‘green collar' jobs.

Kensa's founder and Chairman, Richard Freeborn explained that the company had recently won the Housing Excellence 2009 Product of the Year award and significant numbers of heat pumps were being installed into social houses throughout the country.

According to Freeborn:  ‘These successes reflect the quality of the Kensa product which has been engineered to suit the specific needs of UK properties.  The nation's carbon emission reduction targets can only be achieved if heat pumps become widely specified in existing and new housing.  The Kensa product has been designed so that it is simple to install which allows any plumber to embrace the technology.'
