Frequently Asked Questions at Kensa Frequently Asked Question

What about cooling?

Heat pumps can provide chilled water by working in reverse. This is a modification to the heat pump and must be specified at the time of ordering.

How effective the cooling is really depends on the distribution system within the building. Underfloor is great for heating, but not good in cooling applications as the cooling is provided at a low level, (ideally cooling needs to be provided at high levels) and heat absorption levels are very low. Added to this is the fact that unless sophisticated control systems are used underfloor cooling can cause condensation, which in turn can be a hazard and cause problems with damp. Domestic grants are also not available, due to cooling being seen as a luxury and not a necessity.

Cooling with radiators is not possible.

Due to the complexities of the control system, cooling systems are generally not fitted within domestic applications and usually found only in commercial systems.

Cooling in commercial applications is more common, as dedicated cooling and heating systems can be installed with sophisticated controls. We would always recommend a buffer vessel is fitted in any cooling system.
