The British Renewable Energy Awards have a distinguished panel of judges with wide experience across the energy and related sectors. These judges consider all the pre-nominations and narrow them down to short-lists of typically 5 to 9 nominees for each award.

The 2009 Awards were presented at a Gala Dinner at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower in London on 11th June, kindly sponsored by RES. The well-known impressionist, comedian and actor, Alistair McGowan entertained at the Dinner.

In considering entries the judges considered the following factors:

Timescale: primarily achievements in the year of the award and the previous year were considered.

Suitability: The ‘fit' with the above criteria for the award category and adherence to the awards guidelines.

Excellence: The quality of the company's business model. Innovative approaches and management practices.

Achievement: the Company's success in growing its business, opening up new market areas and expanding the UK renewables sector.

Dedication: The extent to which the company's success goes beyond achieving a return for its shareholders and represents exceptional efforts ‘above and beyond the call of duty' or job requirements of those involved.

Award-worthiness: The extent to which this will act as an inspiration to others.
